These are the building blocks that this site consists of:
Classes
All your classes are added automatically to the main page when you create a new one. You can create a new class by entering its name in the box at the starting page and clicking "Create a new class". After this, an edit box opens. You can just click "save" for now, you can edit the page later (it's a good place for keeping a journal / log of your lectures to keep you on track what you have done with this class and what you're planning to study). After clicking "save" you'll land to the main page of the class you just created. All your students belonging to the class are listed here (but not yet - see below about adding students).
Seating Charts / Student Lists
Student management is done via seating charts. When you have created a new class, you must create a seating chart for it. This is done as follows:
- When you have created a new class, go to the class page in question (this is done automatically after you have created a new class)
- Click "Seating Chart" -> "Create page"
- An edit box will open. Fill in the students (follow the provided instructions) and click "save" at the bottom of the page
- Now you will see the chart. Click student's name and "save" at the bottom of the page. Repeat this to all of the students.
Student Pages
You can store information about students in individual student pages. They are created as described above. You can also leave them blank but you'll need to create the pages even if there isn't any information to be added. This is needed for automatic student lists.
Miscellaneous notes:
- Upgrade your site to educational, it will give you some benefits (such as secure access).
- Make your site private and turn on secure access (from the Site Manager) because your site may contain some sensitive information about your students (such as exam results and other personal information).
- You can edit any of the pages you have created afterwards by clicking "edit" at the bottom of the page.
- You can clone this site for experimenting purposes and delete it later (don't do the edu-update for the test site) or just go ahead and experiment at http://classroom-demo.wikidot.com!
- This site is intended to be as automated as possible. If you'd like to customize your site further, you can study the Wikidot syntax which will allow you to modify your site for your needs.
